 Trad province is located near the eastern border of Thailand, 315 kilometers from Bangkok. The province stretches near Chantaburi and nearby Cambodia and adjacent to Siam Gulf in the south. The east is separated from Cambodia and from central provinces to the east by Buntud mountain range . Veru river provides west barrier for Trat from Chantaburi.
Believe that the name "Trat" is distorted from the word "Krat" denoting the wood for the manufacture of brooms. In former times, during Ayutthaya Kingdom this town is called Ban Bang Phra. Trat can be a convenient transit point for travelers who for one reason or another can not to take ferry or boat to Koh Chang island.

 Trat Province and The Town
|
Trat province is known for Mu Koh Chang National Marine park with 52 Islands of which the largest and second largest in the country after Phuket and Koh Chang. On the area of 650 square kilometers fit a delightful beaches, coral reefs, hills covered with lush jungle, beautiful waterfalls and fruit oases. Koh Chang and the other Islands of the archipelago connected with the mainland by regular ferry from Trat.
On Thanon Play Khlong road is Wat Bhupparam is the oldest temple in the Kingdom and built of teak in the XVII century. Preserved in it frescos date back to the early Rattanakosin era. In the temple Museum houses many ancient relics, among them the statues of Buddha in various poses, Chinese and European porcelain. Two kilometers from Wat Bhupparam temple is another ancient monastery Wat Yotha Nimit also known as Wat Bot. It is possible to admire a stunning wall paintings.
On Thanon Lak Muang is a beautiful building in the Chinese style built by King Taksin the Great and highly revered by the locals. Here is the City pillar. Near the Church you will find a three-story building which is the former residence of the French Governor during the occupation of this territory in 1904-1907.
Bho Rai area in ancient times was the main place of production of rubies. In our days there are only a few markets selling precious stones. Also, in this region Trat province you can admire the beautiful waterfalls, the most interesting of which is Nam Tok Klong Kaew waterfall and Saladay waterfall.
In Namtok Klong Kaew National park is located 8 kilometres from the road No. 3157 in Bo Rai district is the cascade of the seven waterfalls. Here visitors can see rare species of orchids.
In Khlog Yai district near road No. 318 border is Ban Hat Lek village became a successful channel for Thai-Cambodian trade. On the border is the immigration point, however, tourists visiting Cambodia, please get a visa at the Cambodian Embassy. |
