Mu Ko Chang National Marine Park was created in 1981 and includes Koh Chang island and 46 other, smaller islands. In general the park area is 192 square kilometers of land and 458 square kilometers of the sea surface.
National Park is a fantastic place for diving and snorkeling, with exquisite underwater world, virgin islands, idyllic coves and caves that you can explore by foot, bike or by boat.
The Park is home to 29 species of mammals, 74 species of birds and 42 species of reptiles. Koh Chang island relief is mountainous, the highest peak 743 meters above m.s.l. The main attraction is the waterfalls: Than Mayom waterfall and Khlong Phlu waterfall, numerous islands and white sandy beaches. |
The Park has 5 offices:
The first is located on the road towards Ban Khlong Kloi 1 km from Bang Bao village. The second is located at the entrance to Khlong Plu waterfall. Another on the road between White Sand Beach and Khlong Son Bay. One more is approximately 3 km from Ban Salak Phet. It can be reached through forest way. Going north, turn right at the intersection reaches a level approximately 1.5 km to Salak Phet village.
The Central office of National Park is located 11 km south of Dan-Kao-Pier, right on the road opposite the entrance to Than Mayom faterfall. Central office arranged very nicely and has a restaurant, a small museum, which not only brings you a wealth of information about the flora and fauna of the island, but also shows a very interesting three-dimensional Koh Chang map.
In the park area you can stay the night in the campsite. Double tent is 150 Bath, while eight is 400 Bath. Camping in your own tent is 20 Bath/person. Also in the office you can hire a guide for hiking from the Than Mayom Waterfall to Khlong-Plu-Waterfall. The journey through the mountain rain forest will take from 8 to 10 hours and will cost 500 Bath/person If you want to spend one night in the jungle, this can be arranged for a fee of 700 Bath.
