 A scenic tropical destination, Ao Chaloklum is a big bay framed by the dramatic backdrop of mountain ranges on Koh Phangan North coast with 2.5 km long wide sandy beach and the charming fishing village in the heart. The central part of Ao Chaloklum is featuring the boat pier, the army of the fishing boats, and that suspiciously in an authentic maritime smell that you love or hate. With authentic Thai atmosphere the village is populated with fishermen, and seafood is the main source of income prevails over everything else.
Beachfront restaurants offer beautiful views of the pier filled with colorful boats and fishing vessels thanks to them the waters in the central part of the bay seems a little dark, and pushes away from the desire to swim.
On both sides of the village there are some lovely stretches of beach suitable for relax and swimming, especially in the high tide season from December to March, but during low tide swimming is not very comfortable and if you are looking for a good place to swim head to Haad Khom and Haad Mae Haad beach.
Apart from swimming, there are many options for water activities in Ao Chaloklum including diving, kite-boarding, wind-serfing, kayaking, wakeboarding and fishing. Most of the water sport activities are scattered around on the western coasts of the bay, while the central and upland regions such as Chaloklum village offer more cultural and artistic highlights.
Due to the Northern location on the island, the beach is not ideal for watching the sunsets, with the exception of its Eastern part. West end, also known as Malibu beach is very quiet and one of the most beautiful in Koh Phangan with plenty of shady trees and the white sand on the island, and the offshore breakwater provides a quiet sea surface in any weather. Within the last years Ao Chaloklum saw slowly, but a positive level of development with appreciable increase in number new hotels, villas, seafood restaurants and bars. |
